Student-to-Student Mentoring
Accepted Undergraduate Students
You will meet many Orientation Leaders when you arrive on campus for Orientation - they will be the students responsible for getting you psyched about your new home at ESF! In addition, a portion of these energetic students will continue this responsibility by regularly meeting throughout the semester with assigned groups of new students (like yourself!). These "mentors" will help you further adjust to ESF by taking you to campus and community events and sharing their best tips for academic and personal success. There are also specific presentations linked to your 132 Seminar course and writing course. Topics of these presentations include: learning resources, academic/career success, health and wellness, and advising strategies. You will learn more details about these programs once you meet with your mentor and instructors. Please understand that it is an expectation of your 132 seminar and writing courses that you will be involved in this mentoring program. You will meet with your mentor informally throughout the fall semester scheduled on an individual group basis. The Student-to-Student Mentoring Program is an extremely wise and worthwhile investment of your time! You will have the opportunity to meet your mentor and the rest of your group at the end of orientation weekend on Saturday, August 23rd at 5:00 PM and again for lunch on Sunday at 12:30 PM.
"Saturday of Service"
SUNY ESF is very committed to serving the larger community. Last year alone, ESF students donated over 60,000 hours of their time to serving their local, national and global communities. As part of your orientation experience, you and your new classmates will have the opportunity to become more familiar with the larger Syracuse community. What better way to do it than through service! Groups of new ESF students will be working throughout the city of Syracuse in a variety of projects involving clean-ups and community betterment. You will hear more details about the Saturday of Service once you arrive on campus, but be prepared to "get in touch" with Syracuse in a very unique way! Please make sure to bring appropriate clothing and gear for outside community service projects (i.e. old sneakers/closed-toe shoes, long sleeved t-shirts, waders, gloves, old jeans/long pants).
