Move-in Pass

Dear New Student:

In August, 3,000 new students will arrive on the Syracuse University campus for Syracuse University’s new student orientation program, Syracuse Welcome 2008: A Slice of SU Life . Likewise, over 500 new students will be arriving to the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry for their orientation. To ensure arrival and move-in are smooth and efficient, all new students (including ESF students) are required to download a move-in pass from the Syracuse University new student orientation website.

  • SUNY ESF students will need to move-in on Wednesday, August 20 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. to be available for an opening convocation at 3 p.m.
  • SUNY ESF students that are housed in the Sheraton will need to move into their rooms on Thursday afternoon, August 21 and therefore should download a move-in pass for Thursday, August 21st.   Students will attend required freshman orientation sessions beginning Thursday morning at 9:00 am and follow the rest of the orientation schedule until the afternoon, when you will be allowed to move into your room at the Sheraton.  Our suggested time for move-in is between 2:30 and 4:30 pm, following your academic advising and faculty meetings.

Beginning July 23 at noon, all first-year students will need to log onto the Syracuse University orientation website to select a move-in day and print a “move-in pass.” To download a move-in pass, please complete the following steps:

  1. Go to http://orientation.syr.edu
  2. On the left hand side of the page, click on “New Student Orientation”
  3. Under the “Important Links” section, click on “Move-in Pass Information”
  4. From this page, you will be asked for your name and SUID number. You will also need to select your move-in day (Wednesday, August 20 or Thursday, August 21) and time slot (9 a.m. – 12 p.m. or 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.). You may arrive on campus at any point during your selected time slot.

All residential students are required to attend a residence hall floor meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 21. Students participating in special programs requiring them to arrive prior to Wednesday, August 20 (i.e. pre-orientation programs, athletic teams, and the marching band) do not need to download a move-in pass.

The deadline to print a move-in pass is Monday, August 6 at 4:30 p.m.; after that date students will be assigned to Thursday, August 21. Since we can only accommodate a portion of residents to move-in early on Wednesday, August 20, a prompt response is essential. On both Wednesday, August 20 and Thursday, August 21, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., University personnel and a group of returning student volunteers, affectionately known as the “Goon Squad,” will be available to assist you as you move into your residence hall.

New students will receive an e-mail from the Office of Housing, Meal Plan, and I.D. Card Services on or about July 20 that will include a housing assignment, roommate(s) contact information, and information regarding housing and meal plans at Syracuse University. The email will be sent directly to students’ SU email account. A packet of information will follow via mail with additional details about housing and move-in. More information about housing at Syracuse University can be found at the Office of Housing, Meal Plan, and I.D. Card services website at http://housingmealplans.syr.edu.

If you are unable to access the internet to download a move-in pass or if you have any questions about the move-in process, please call the New Student Hotline at (315) 443-1012, contact us via email at newtosu@syr.edu, or send us an instant message at SUOOCP.
