A Message from the President...
Accepted Undergraduate Students
Welcome to ESF!
I am pleased to welcome you to the ESF community. We are a diverse assemblage of teachers and students, researchers and scholars, dreamers and doers bound together by a passion for the natural world and a belief that we can make the world a better place through fundamental knowledge of its origins and workings and creating a bold vision for its sustainable future.
Co-equal to saving the planet, our highest priority is your success. As you explore these Web pages you will find a remarkable array of resources in ESF, SU, the Syracuse community, and our fantastic outposts and partner institutions from the Adirondacks to Central America. My hope is that you will discover and fulfill your passion in life whether that is landscape architecture, forest management, conservation, chemistry, or discovering sustainable alternatives to meet society's immediate needs while not destroying or diminishing the resources and options available to future generations. The possibilities are endless, bound only by your imagination and energy, and ESF is an ideal place to pursue them.
While your course of study will be rigorous to assure you have the knowledge, literacies, skills, and perspectives to have a successful career and deeply meaningful life, education does not end with the bell or at the edges of campus. ESF students are nationally recognized for their volunteerism and commitment to the things they believe in. You will find many clubs, organizations, internships, and other opportunities to put what you care most about to work. Take advantage of them, or create a new one of your own.
ESF is a special institution, uniquely focused on the environment and sustainability. This distinction is not an accident, but a result of the vision, passion, enthusiasm and dedication of our faculty and staff and above all of our students. Your arrival enriches our community just as we hope to enrich you through challenging classes and an inspiring atmosphere of curiosity, discovery, and innovation. You have my best wishes for every success.
Dr. Quentin Wheeler, President
