Notice of 8:45 p.m., Tuesday, October 30, 2012
Dear Campus Community,
This is to confirm that classes on the ESF Syracuse campus will resume at 11:00am this morning.
Also, the College is lifting the prohibition on outdoor classes today as the National Weather Service has cancelled its High Wind Warning for Central New York. Instructors planning outdoor activities should use extreme caution, however, if they will be in wooded areas as conditions are expected to remain breezy.
Thankfully, Central New York has been spared from any significant damage from Sandy up to this point and the forecast for the next few days is relatively benign. On the other hand, many of us have friends and relatives in other parts of the Northeast that fared far worse and are concerned for them.
Bruce C. Bongarten
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry

Syracuse, NY 13210
Because of the anticipated extreme weather conditions and the College's concern for student and employee safety, all classes at the ESF Syracuse campus beginning after 2:00 p.m. today (Monday) and before 11:00 a.m. tomorrow (Tuesday) are cancelled. Laboratory classes that begin before 2:00 p.m. today should conclude no later than 4:00 p.m. Further, no classes should be conducted outdoors today or tomorrow at any of the ESF campuses.
During the period 3:00 p.m. Monday through 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, ESF business offices on the Syracuse campus, with the exception of University Police, will operate with reduced staff and functionality. Moon Library will be closed during this period.
Essential Syracuse University campus services, including food centers and Schine and Goldstein dining halls, public safety, and health services will remain operational and open for normal hours. The E.S. Bird Library will close at 1:30 p.m. today. Syracuse University recreation facilities will close at 1:30 p.m. today and remain closed through Tuesday, October 29. Regular hours will resume on Wednesday, October 31. While unnecessary travel is to be avoided, buses will be running according to schedule at this time.
Depending on weather and infrastructure conditions, further class cancelations are possible. Please tune into local news later this evening and tomorrow morning to receive any updates. Please also monitor your e-mail for updates.
Given the strong winds and rain that are expected, the College of Environmental Science and Forestry encourages all campus community members to remain indoors and avoid any unnecessary travel.
Staff members from the ESF Police Department will remain on campus during this period and may be contacted at 315-470-6666 or 470-6667.
