Adirondack Summer Internships

 

 

The Roosevelt Internship for Undergraduates provides opportunities for independent environmental research. Students work with faculty and staff on the Huntington Wildlife Forest while experiencing the unrivaled mountains, lakes, forests and wildlife of the Adirondack Park. As a Roosevelt Intern, you will:

  • Complete a research project of your own design
  • Publish as part the Adirondack Ecological Center Report series, and   possibly in a refereed journal
  • Collaborate with other researchers in a wilderness environment
  • Explore career opportunities with faculty and grad student mentors
  • Gain skills in data collection, analysis and technical writing

    Credits     –     Free Room and Board     –     Experience     –     Stipend

The Roosevelt Internship includes room and board for up to 12 weeks at Huntington Forest and a $200 stipend upon completion of your project report. Students may earn up to 4 credit hours of Independent Study.  Credit hours are added to the Fall semester enrollment, so there is no additional tuition cost for full time students.  Start and end dates are flexible.

 

 

Sample project ideas (or propose your own):

  • Geospatial modeling of wildlife habitat suitability
  • Potential for Adirondack forests to offset greenhouse gas emissions
  • West Nile Virus and use of Bti to control blackflies
  • Calcium availability, acid rain and biodiversity
  • Climate change: trends and ecological impacts in the Adirondacks
  • Effects of invasive species on native wildlife
  • Assessment of recreation levels on public lands using GIS
  • Health of fisheries in limed and untreated lakes
