Okoniewski, J. C. 1982. A fatal encounter between an adult coyote and three conspecifics. Journal of Mammalogy, 63(4):679-680.
Abstract: Reports of fatal agonistic encounters among adult coyotes (Canis latrans) have seldom appeared in the literature. In a rare account, Murie (J. Mamm. 32:291-195, 1951) reported the apparent killing of an older adult by other coyotes in Arizona. This note documents the death of an adult eastern coyote resulting from wounds suffered in an encounter with three other coyotes. The incident was recorded during a study of vocalization behavior of coyotes in the Adirondack Mountains of New York (Okoniewski, Unpubl. M.S. Thesis, State Univ. N.Y. Col. Env. Sci. and For. 1980).
