Review minutes of previous meeting

·   Minutes distributed – with no discussion. 

·   Steve DeGloria moved a motion to accept minutes, second by Marty Ragusky.  Motion passed by acclamation.

President’s Report

·   Planning for February meeting

-   Initial speaker no longer available, suggestion of Art Lembo as possible speaker

-   Menu selection/pricing for dinner

·   May RS meeting

-   Need to nail things down

National Director’s Report

·   National vote on Rio Grande chapter

-   Of interest primarily because it shows existence of chapters

·   Region tax-exempt status

-   Status revised because of concerns raised during internal audit

-   E-mail from Jim Plasker to National Directors explaining situation

-   SDD to forward e-mail to LJQ and provide summary for newsletter

-   Regions will become incorporated under group status in Virginia

-   Wording for by-law revisions to be provided by National lawyers

-   Need to ensure officer contact information is correct – provide to Jesse Winch

-   Rocky Mountain region to be used as test case, new guidelines will likely impact CNY region for tax year 2003.

Treasurer’s Report

·   Report distributed showing 2001 income and expenditure and year end assets and liabilities

·   Steve DeGloria moved a motion to accept report, second by Marty Ragusky.  Motion passed by acclamation.

Old Business

Spring Remote Sensing Conference

·   Planned for 9 (or 10) May with ~50-100 attending

·   TEH contact with National

-   Avoid clashing with Annual conference (two weeks okay)

-   National has no plans for a meeting discussing Emergency preparedness until PECORA

-   NE GIS conference will be held in Massachusetts week after 15/16 May

·   Possible involvement with NASA/RACNE?

-   TEH discussion with Bob Brower from the Institute at Cayuga County formerly known as the RACNE

-   Institute has some funds to support conference

-   Perhaps more suited to invite participation of NASA and/or Institute in technical program rather than as co-sponsor

·   Possible involvement with Nth Atlantic Region

-   Audience/mailing list

-   Technical/industry contacts

·   Need to define audience

-   Aim at local Remote Sensing community

-   Not aimed at general audience

-   RS for post-evaluation and preparedness

·   TEH overview of RS usage in NYC post 9-11

-   Need for rapid turnaround

-   Need to emergency service personnel to understand RS capabilities

-   Need to provide product in usable, concise format – meeting client needs

·   Conference format

-   Single day meeting in three sessions (or 1.5 days with three half-day sessions)

-   General image information theme with three focus areas

-   Emergency preparedness and response

-   Industry development session – remote sensing applications

-   Data Fusion

-   Possible speakers

-   Sean Ahearn (Hunter College, Dept of Geography)

-   Bill Philpot (Cornell University)

Newsletter

·   Submissions for next issue due 11 January

·   Need reports from National Director and President

National Director Election

·   Bio’s received for both candidates

·   PJS has request a goal statement and will follow up on that

February Dinner Meeting

·   Location

-   The Beeches, Rome NY

·   Cost

-   Members $25, students $15

·   Menu – MRR to finalize

·   Speaker

-   Possibly ask Art Lembo

-   SDD to follow up and MRR to finalize

Student of the Year Award

·   Letter to faculty/contacts needs to go out in February

-   TEH to revise and pass on to PJS

-   Send to faculty and e.g. student life offices

·   Need to generate more student involvement

-   LJQ pursuing contacts at institutes that do not have ASPRS members on the faculty

-   E.g. St Lawrence, Mansfield, PA

·   Changes

-   Submission date changed to 15 March

-   Awards 1st place: $300, 2nd place $200 (refer to minutes of 7 Sept 2001)

Region By-laws

·   SDD to finalize revision for inclusion in March/April newsletter, and vote at May annual meeting

New Business

Elections

·   Need to consider names for Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer of Region

·   Mike Courneen (Past President) serves as Chair of Nominations Committee

·   LJQ will serve again as Sec/Treas if no other people are interested

·   Ongoing discussion between PFH and MRR (and staff)

·   Consider speaker names for May RS conference

·   Consider candidates for region Vice-president and Secretary/Treasurer

·   Begin preparing slate for Vice-president and Secretary/Treasurer election

·   Follow up with Art Lembo regarding membership, interest in being a speaker at February meeting and interest in running for Vice-president

·   Provide PJS with statement for newsletter

·   Follow up with National President-Elect (Terry Keating) re speaking at region annual meeting in May

·   Follow up with contact in North Atlantic region regarding May RS conference

Tom Henderson

·   Provide PJS with any necessary revisions for “Dear Colleague” letter for SOY award

Lindi Quackenbush

·   Verify contact information for Region Council

·   Provide PJS with financial statement for newsletter

·   Follow up with The Beeches regarding final dinner options
