Practical OER: Transitioning from Theory to ImplementationCampus Calendar
Friday, February 2, 2018
9:30 am - 4:00 pm
Location: 110 Moon Library
Event Description: The College Libraries would like to invite you to attend a virtual conference on Open Educational Resources (OERs) on Friday February 2, 2018. The theme this year is Practical OER: Transitioning from Theory to Implementation. This is a great opportunity to engage with each other and learn what our peers, in SUNY and beyond, are doing with OER.
Open Educational Resources (OERs) are any type of educational materials that are in the public domain or introduced with an open license. The nature of these open materials means that anyone can legally and freely copy, use, adapt and re-share them. OERs range from textbooks to curricula, syllabi, lecture notes, assignments, tests, projects, audio, video and animation (UNESCO). Use of OERs can help keep costs down for students, as well as give faculty the ability to control and customize course materials instead of being bound to traditional publishing models.
The conference will be streamed in Moon 110 and light refreshments will be provided throughout the day. Sessions run from 10am - 3:10pm and will be followed by a discussion on what we want OER to be at ESF and what help and incentive faculty need. We welcome you to drop in when you can. Please share this message with colleagues it may not have reached. We appreciate if you could RSVP to Ellen Edgerton (email@example.com).
For a full description of each streamed session please go to http://sunyla.org/sunyla-midwinter-2018/. If you are unable to stop by the library to attend, or are at a remote location, you may also register at that link and stream it to your office. But we really hope you can attend so that you can engage with your colleagues on the topic.
