Bone Marrow Registry Drive
Wednesday, November 14, 2012
9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Annually, 12,000 individuals with blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, sickle cell and other life-threatening illnesses are looking for a bone marrow donor match to save their lives. On Tuesday, November 13, and Wednesday, November 14, ESF will host a blood drive and bone marrow registry drive, both of which will directly impact the lives of countless individuals who need blood and/or bone marrow transplants. The drives will be hosted in honor of Kevan Busa, ESF senior in Landscape Architecture, and dedicated to Dr. Guy Baldassarre, a Distinguished Teaching Professor in the department of Environmental and Forest Biology. Dr. Baldassarre passed away on August 20, 2012 due to complications from Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. While we can never repay Dr. Baldassarre for his contributions to the College, we can support two organizations that help save lives of people like him.
By joining the Be The Match registry you may have the unique opportunity to help a patient by donating bone marrow and giving another person a second chance at life. It takes just minutes of your time to join and your efforts can save a life. Due to patient need, minorities are especially encouraged to join as well as individuals between the ages of 18-44 (max. age is 60). There is no need to make an appointment, just show up to the drive and you will be guided through the process.
