Synopsis:

Two hours of lecture. Introduction to carbohydrate chemistry. Chemistry of cellulose, hemicelluloses, and lignin. Cellulose derivatives. Distribution of polysaccharides and lignin in wood. Wood extractives. Chemistry of bark. Formation of heartwood. Wood as a chemical raw material. Spring.
 

Prerequisites

One or two semesters of a three-credit undergraduate course in organic chemistry.
