Research Highlights:

Primary areas of research, teaching and public service are the decay of wood and wood products by fungi, mycology of indoor air and indoor environmental quality, wood anatomy and identification, wood anatomy-quality relationships, and microscopy. Research activities are conducted in the C.J.K. Wang Wood Biodegradation Laboratory, the Indoor Environmental Quality research laboratory, and the N.C Brown Center for Ultrastructure Studies(Link). The Indoor Environmental Quality research laboratory is a component of the New York STAR Center for Environmental Quality Systems at Syracuse University. Past and current projects include:

Development of a DNA-based Macroarray to Identify Fungi from Air Samples

Accurate Exposure Assessment of Bioaerosols in Indoor Air

Fungi in Southern Pine Utility Poles During Manufacture

Microfibril Angle of Individual Softwood Tracheids and Hardwood Fibers

Utilization of Soft-Rot Cavity Formation to determine microfibril angle in the wood cell wall

Light Microscopic Diagnosis of Wood Decay

       Identification of Picea and Larix

       Jay Covered Bridge
