To direct the production of all official College publications from conception through writing, editing, design and layout; to develop and manage the budget for said publications; and to select the printer and oversee the printing of such publications
To advise various members of the College staff on matters involving external and media relations
To act as liaison between the College and the news media and determine the best response to requests for information

In conjunction with the President and Executive Cabinet, to serve as final arbitrator on questions pertaining to publications standards
Long Term Goals
Improve the visibility and effectiveness of the Office of News and Publications among campus-based clients to make it the office of first resort for questions and projects or problems in the areas of College public relations, media relations and publications
Improve regular contacts with regional and national media science reporters to increase the frequency of ESF references in/on those publications/TV-radio shows, and to develop ESF as a primary source of "expert" information on the environment for national reporters
Reinvigorate the College's technical and public service publications program, working closely with the Extension Office to improve/revise old offerings and to add both free and for-sale titles that serve educators, environmental/nature centers, the general public, colleagues, and other groups with an interest in our research and academic specialties
Review current ESF publications that target outside audiences (e.g., prospective students, development contributors, users of technology transfer information, alumni and other friends) in order to produce an effective mix of high quality publications that link the College's programs with the interests of our important client groups
