Burkly Assumes Leadership of ESF Trustees
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Thomas C. Burkly, vice president of Stearns and Wheler Environmental Engineers & Scientists, has been elected chair of the board of trustees of the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF).
Burkly, who lives in Cazenovia, joined the board in 1997. He takes over leadership of the board from Curtis H. Bauer, who has spent more than 30 years as a trustee. Bauer had been chair since 1995.
Daniel T. Fitts of Lake Placid, executive director of the Adirondack Park Agency, was elected vice chair during the board's annual winter meeting on the ESF campus.
Burkly has 33 years of experience in environmental engineering. His specialty is water supply, treatment and distribution. He is a registered professional engineer in New York, Connecticut and New Hampshire. He graduated from Manhattan College in 1963. Fitts has worked with the Adirondack Park Agency since 1987. He was supervisor of administrative services before taking over as executive director in January 1995. He has been an ESF trustee since 1998.
Both Bauer and Fitts were educated at ESF. Bauer earned his bachelor's degree from the college in 1950. Fitts earned a master's degree that was issued jointly by ESF and Syracuse University in 1980.
