ESF's December Convocation Recognizes Students
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - About 120 students will receive their degrees Friday, Dec. 8, during the December Convocation of the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF).
The mid-year ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. in Hendricks Chapel on the Syracuse University campus.
About 70 students are eligible to receive bachelors' degrees. Some 40 students were expected to have completed the requirements for master's degrees. About 10 more were expected to receive doctor of philosophy degrees. Some of the students completed their course requirements in August.
Dr. Cornelius B. Murphy, Jr., who was installed last month as the college's third president, will be the keynote speaker during the ceremony.
ESF's mid-year Convocation was established in 1985 to recognize the growing number of students who complete their degree requirements and leave campus to work or pursue further education, which makes it impossible for them to return for traditional commencement ceremonies in May.
Following convocation, there will be an informal reception in Alumni Lounge in Marshall Hall on the ESF campus. At 6 p.m., the college will hold its annual December Soiree dinner-dance at the Hotel Syracuse in downtown Syracuse.
