ESF News & Publications Office Wins Award
SUNY/CUAD Award for Excellence
SYRACUSE The Office of News and Publications at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) was awarded the 2002 SUNY/CUAD "Best of Category" Award for Excellence in community relations for its Central New York Visibility Initiative.
SUNY/CUAD (State University of New York Council on University Affairs and Development) presented the award at a June ceremony in Rochester. The judges called the ESF entry a "stand-out, because of its excellent results generated by creative use of limited resources and the variety of outstanding communications tactics used."
Components of the visibility initiative included: print and radio advertising, participation in area events including the New York State Fair, the Ultimate Fishing Challenge and St. Patrick’s Parade; a 12-page "SUNY-ESF Turns 90 insert in the Syracuse Newspapers; flyers with tips about caring for a fresh-cut Christmas tree, extensive coverage in area newspapers; and an ESF Earth Day message printed on paper bags distributed by Peter’s Groceries.
SUNY/CUAD is a professional organization representing individuals on SUNY’s 64 campuses engaged in media relations, publications, marketing, development, alumni affairs and governmental relations.
This is the second time in less than six months that the New & Publications staff has been recognized for its efforts to increase community awareness of the college. The office won a Gold Award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) for its print ad "Before there was Earth Day, there was ESF."
