SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Nearly 90 undergraduate and about 65 graduate students received their degrees Dec. 6 during the December Convocation of the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF).
The mid-year ceremony began at 3 p.m. in Hendricks Chapel on the Syracuse University campus. Eighty-one students received bachelor of science degrees, with three students earning a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture.
Some 47 students completed the requirements for the degrees of master of science and master of professional studies. About 18 more received doctor of philosophy degrees. Some of the students completed their course requirements in August.
Dr. Cornelius B. Murphy, Jr., ESF president, will be the keynote speaker during the ceremony.
ESF's mid-year Convocation was established in 1985 to recognize the growing number of students who complete their degree requirements and leave campus to work or pursue further education, which makes in impossible for them to return for traditional commencement ceremonies in May.
Following convocation, an informal reception was held in Alumni Lounge in Marshall Hall on the ESF campus. At 6 p.m., the college held its annual December Soiree dinner-dance at the Convention Center at Oncenter.
