Barber Named HR Director
16-year ESF veteran advances
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Marcia A. Barber, a 16-year veteran of the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), has been named the college's new director of human resources.
Barber, who most recently served as ESF's assistant director of human resources, replaces Elaine Irvin, who retired in October. Barber was selected for the position after an extensive search process with candidates representing public and private colleges and universities.
In her previous role Barber was responsible for recruitment and employment processes for the college's 485 employees on both state and SUNY Research Foundation payrolls. Her experience includes overseeing classification and compensation; working with employee relations; and developing and delivering employee training programs.
In addition, Barber has supervised ESF's affirmative action and ADA compliance programs.
She is a member of several professional organizations and serves on numerous college committees. Barber additionally is a New York State-licensed wildlife rehabilitator and certified black belt karate instructor.
"The search committee, chaired by Elizabeth Elkins, did an outstanding job of developing a strong pool of qualified candidates," said Connie S. Webb, ESF's vice president for administration. "Marcia Barber is an excellent choice and we in the college administration look forward to working with her in this critical position."
