Summer Science Horizons Students Visit ESF Greenhouses

Terry Ettinger leads middle schoolers on tour

Syracuse, New York (WSYR-TV) - It may be summer break, but that's not stopping some kids from taking it to the next level in the classroom.

Nearly 40 middle school students are taking part in this year's Summer Science Horizons program. It's a week of field trips, lectures and hands-on learning to keep young minds fresh for the fall.

We caught up with the group Monday exploring the greenhouses on the roof of SUNY ESF.

“Students get to see the science in action. They're not just sitting in a classroom learning about it. They can see how it's applied to their everyday lives and make sense out of it,” says Pine Grove Middle School teacher Theresa Hunter.

The camp is fully funded by Bristol Myers Squibb.
