Ethnologists, zoologists, anthropologists, psychiatrists, and biologists have argued that many animals do indeed communicate. This panel explores knowledge gained from what Visweswaran (1994) calls "hyphenated" ethnographies conducted by ethnographers with hyphenated identities as human animals participating in lifeworlds with other animals.

Water issues figure prominently in environmental communication in Florida. This session reaches out to state environmental organizations and government officials who address a range of waterrelated issues in their work. Spokespersons from 1000 Friends of Florida (Dan Pennington), The Nature Conservancy (Jora Young and Doug Shaw) and the state Department of Environmental Protection (Eric Livingston and John Outland) will discuss communication surrounding water issues in Florida. After short presentations by the panelists, audience members are encouraged to engage the panelists and each other in discussion of these issues.
