Environmental Communication Division
NCA Conference - Call for Papers
Chicago, November 15-18, 2007

The Environmental Communication Division invites submissions for competitively selected papers and thematic panels that address the relationship between communication theories and practices and environmental issues. The Division welcomes submissions involving traditional as well as innovative theories, methods, and objects of analysis.

Paper and panel submissions will be competitively reviewed. While submission of completed papers is encouraged, innovative panel proposals are also welcomed, especially round table discussions that invite more participation from conference attendees. Submissions related to the convention theme of “Communicating World Views: Faith-Intellect-Ethics” are especially encouraged. Papers should list “environmental communication” among the key words.

Proposals for competitive papers, panels, and round tables must be submitted online by February 14, 2007.

All proposals should be submitted online at: http://convention2.allacademic.com/one/nca/nca07/

Please note: NCA conference participants may only submit one paper per unit, as a first author (chairing or responding to a session does not count as a paper presentation). NCA plans to enforce the policy that conference participants may appear in no more than three sessions throughout the convention, including paper presentations, panel participation, and chairing or responding to a panel.

Submitted papers should include:

  • A title
  • An approximate 250 word abstract of the paper
  • An approximate page length of less than 25 pages
  • No identifying information about the author. Remove your name from the paper, the title page, and any where your name might appear in the paper before submitting the paper to the conference website.
  • Please specify if you are interested in presenting your paper in the NCA scholar-to-scholar sessions.
  • Papers must be submitted online in either Microsoft Word or PDF. Compressed or zip files will not be accepted.
  • Review criteria include: theoretical rigor, analytical rigor, writing quality, and overall contribution to environmental communication.

Submitted panels should include:

  • A title
  • A list of presenters and their affiliations
  • Titles and abstracts for each presentation
  • A rationale of no more than 250 words
  • Panel proposals must be submitted online in either Microsoft Word or PDF. Compressed or zip files will not be accepted.
  • Review criteria include: topical relevance to theme, quality of rationale, coherence of the panel, and overall contribution to environmental communication.

Submitted round tables should include:

  • A title
  • A list of participants and their affiliations
  • An abstract of no more than 75 words for the convention program
  • A rationale of no more than 250 words
  • Round table proposals must be submitted online in either Microsoft Word or PDF. Compressed or zip files will not be accepted.
  • Review criteria include: topical relevance to theme, quality of rationale, and overall contribution to environmental communication.

Please keep audio-visual technology requests to a minimum. You must specify audio-visual technology needs when submitting proposals and papers online.
