Environmental Communication Network Mailing List

This is an email mailing list for people interested in issues of environmental communication generally, including the biennial Conference on Communication and Environment. The list is open to the public, so anyone can participate. It provides a space for the interdisciplinary exchange of information among researchers, activists, and professionals interested in all forms of environmental communication. This includes mass media, speech communication, rhetorical, linguistic, cultural studies, and other communicative perspectives on environmental affairs.

The list is intended as a primarily academic forum, NOT as a general environmental rant room or simply as a place to communicate about environmental issues.

After you subscribe, when you send an e-mail message to the list address, you will be sending it to everyone who is signed up to the list. In turn, as a subscriber you will receive all postings made by others. For those of you familiar with such lists, ours is an un-moderated public LISTSERV with all of the usual functions.

As long as they are related to the field of environmental communication, you are welcome to use the list for the following sorts of things:

  • conference announcements and calls for papers
  • job announcements
  • requests for information or assistance
  • offers of information or assistance
  • book, article, periodical, film, etc. recommendations; and
  • discussions on topics appropriate to the list

That last item means that the ECN list is for discussion of environmental communication issues (and how they relate to general environmental issues and problems), and not about environmentalism or environmental issues per se. It is intended as a primarily academic forum, not as a general environmental rant room or simply as a place to communicate about the environment.

In other words, the list provides a space for the interdisciplinary exchange of information among researchers, activists, and professionals interested in all forms of environmental communication. This includes mass media, speech communication, rhetorical, linguistic, cultural studies, and other such perspectives on environmental affairs.
