REQUIRED: EFB 320, General Ecology Lab Manual, Fall 2009 -- available at The Copy Center in Bray Hall basement. You will need to go to the cashier's office on the first floor of Bray Hall and pay for the manual, then take the receipt down to the Copy Center to pick up your copy. Also, you will need a field notebook to record data on field trips. Remember, pencils continue to work in the rain, and most pens do not.

WHERE TO MEET FOR FIELD TRIPS: In the schedule below is a note indicating whether to meet in the lab room, or at the bus. Busses will depart from Stadium Place between Lawrinson hall and the Standart parking lot. If you face Moon Library from the quad, you can see a tall building in back...that is Lawrinson Hall. Busses meet on the street, west of the hall (down hill). Be sure to arrive EARLY. We have a lot to accomplish and must depart at the scheduled lab starting time. You are NOT allowed to drive to the field sites. See lab manual for safety precautions.

NEW FOR GRADING

We are adding an additional 45 points to the lab grade, bringing the total to 295 points. We are implenting a 15 point peer-review for each of your big lab write-ups (Labs 3, 4 & 5). The peer review will occur in lab. We fully expect everyone to offer helpful and constructive comments so that all the final drafts will be improved by the process. The 15 pts are distributed as follows: 5pts for the rough draft do on the lab write-up session (e.g., the week of 10/5 for the Soil Ecology lab), 5 points for your serious comments made on two of your classmates rough drafts, 5 points for your seriously incorporating the suggestions made by two of your classmates on your rough draft. The week after the Lab write-up session, you will turn in 1) your rough draft that was peer-reviewd, the comment sheets from your reviewers and the final draft for your 50 point grade on the report. We are serious about this -- because the process will help you become a better writer.
