REQUIRED:
EFB 320, General Ecology Lab Manual, Fall 2011 -- available at The Copy Center in Marshall Square. Also,
you will need a notebook to take notes and record data. The Notebook should be suitable for taking into the field. Remember, pencils
continue to work in the rain, and most pens do not.
WHERE TO MEET FOR FIELD TRIPS: In the schedule below is a note indicating whether to meet in the lab room, or at the bus. Busses will depart from Stadium Place between Lawrinson hall and the Standart parking lot. If you face Moon Library from the quad, you can see a tall building in back...that is Lawrinson Hall. Busses meet on the street, west of the hall (down hill side). Be sure to arrive EARLY. We have a lot to accomplish and must depart at the scheduled lab starting time. You are NOT allowed to drive to the field sites. See lab manual for safety precautions.

You will use a peer review in each of your big lab write-ups (Labs 3 & 4). That is where that "+ 10" comes from in each of those lab point values above. The peer review will occur in lab as indicated in the schedule above. We fully expect everyone to offer helpful and constructive comments so that all the final drafts will be improved by the process. The 10 pts are distributed as follows: 5pts for the rough draft due on the lab write-up session (e.g., the week of 10/10 for the Soil Ecology lab) and 5 points for your serious comments made on two of your classmates rough drafts. The week after the peer review session, you will turn in 1) your rough draft that was peer-reviewd by two classmates with the comment sheets from your reviewers and 2) the final draft for your 50 point grade on the report. We are serious about this -- because the process will help you become a better writer.
The notebook points will be distributed as follows: 2.5 points for notes taken from the TA comments/lectures and 2.5 points for data you collect and analyze, including field observations when on a field trip, actual data points, number crunching, etc.
