Are you interested in graduate study at ESF?
SUNY-ESF is a unique place for
graduate work in the environmental sciences.
It’s a small, yet powerful school.
Our graduates go many places and really do have an impact in the science and policy arenas.
If you
are interested in working with me, please check out my website and you’ll see
that my interests are rather wide-ranging, but not all-inclusive. Feel free to email me with inquiries. In some cases, it makes sense to co-advise a
student with another faculty.
In terms
of support: sometimes I have available funding, but sometimes it’s all spoken
for. Best thing is to check in; also we
can work on proposals together (see below).
If you are a strong applicant, you can apply for a TA, and that will
give you a running start.
My
philosophy for mentoring is to provide more “hand-holding” to M.Sc. students, and to give doctoral students more of an
independent hand. Having said that,
however, I am happy to work with students to write grant or fellowship
proposals, and help them to develop research directions. There’s nothing more rewarding than to see
students’ imaginations catch fire when they see their research yield cool
results.
