Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Resources Engineering, State University of New York, College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF). Teach and conduct research about green infrastructure, natural wastewater treatment, ecosystem restoration and sustainability evaluation.

 

 

 

Adjunct Professor,  El Colegio de La Frontera Sur (ECOSUR), San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico. Conducting research with the Maya on agroforestry and rainforest restoration, and on natural wastewater treatment.

 

2004-2007

 

Fulbright Fellow (2004-2005)/Post-doctoral Fellow (2006-2007) El Colegio de La Frontera Sur, San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico. Conducted research with the indigenous Lacandon Maya on rainforest restoration; taught courses and workshops on ecosystem restoration and environmental analysis.

Graduate Fellow, Department of Food Agricultural and Biological Engineering, The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. Completed coursework and research on: ecological engineering, restoration of wetland, stream and forest ecosystems. Assisted in teaching courses on ecosystems for water treatment and energy analysis.

 

1998-2001

 

Environmental Engineer, IT Corporation, Houston, Texas. Assessed fate and transport of pollutants in groundwater. Designed groundwater and soil bioremediation of petrochemical release sites. Engineered groundwater pumping systems and physical, chemical and biological treatment processes for industrial wastewater. Wrote proposals. Prepared environmental compliance permits and plans.

 

1997-1998

 

Environmental Engineer, BNC Environmental Services, Houston, Texas. Managed environmental remediation and assessment projects. Designed literature review databases for environmental law arbitration. Conducted wetland delineations. Interpreted and implemented environmental regulations for natural gas pipeline and compressor station construction.

 

1993-1997

 

Graduate Fellow (1993-1995)/Student, Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Studied and researched wetland engineering and water resources management.

 

1995-1996

 

Environmental Scientist/Engineer, PLAN International, Santa Rosa de Copán, Honduras, Central America. Designed, constructed, maintained, and studied a pilot wetland system for wastewater treatment. Engineered restoration of municipal treatment wetland. Worked with Honduran Ministry of Water and Sanitation to resolve wastewater treatment problems in western Honduras. 

 

1995-1996

 

Lab Technician/Manager, Ministry of Health, Santa Rosa de Copán, Honduras, Central America. Conducted BOD, phosphorus, nitrogen, metals and coliform bacteria analyses of water and wastewater. Trained laboratory personnel in water and wastewater analysis. Worked with Honduran Ministry of Health and Honduran Ministry of Water and Sanitation to resolve water quality crisis.     

 

1990-1993
