Urban streams are likely to receive polluted runoff from our built environment and may suffer from serious historic pollution and modification. Despite this, stream restoration projects are often not located in these areas because of difficulty in assuring improvement to aquatic resources and the threat of future encroachment on these sites. This research will examine urban and non-urban restoration sites in order to determine if there is evidence of an important natural function: the mixing of surface and groundwater, which can influence nutrient processing, habitat, and more.
