I’ve been working most recently with the Lacandon Maya in southern Mexico. Here I share my daughter’s picture book with two Lacandon friends, Carlitos and Rigoberto.

My work integrates my professional experience and graduate education in ecological engineering with my undergraduate background in anthropology. Throughout nearly a decade of research, I have taken a multidisciplinary approach that combines scientific tools and current ecological engineering research with careful study of traditional, indigenous restoration and agricultural design. The overall goal of my work is to determine how ecosystems can be designed for mutual benefit to both humans and the environment, addressing a future of reduced fossil fuel availability through sustainable ecological engineering.
