ERFEG Welcomes New Faculty Members!

stewart diemontDr. Stewart Diemont received his bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Pre-Med from the University of Texas at Austin, his master’s in Environmental Sciences and Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and his doctorate in Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering from The Ohio State University. For the past decade his research, teaching, and consulting work have concentrated in ecological engineering with much of his work in Latin America. Before coming to ESF, Dr. Diemont was a postdoctoral fellow at El Colegio de La Frontera Sur in Chiapas, Mexico, where he researched sustainable agriculture and forest restoration through the traditional ecological knowledge of the Lacandon Maya of the Lacandon rainforest. His current research focuses on natural wastewater treatment, sustainability analysis, ecosystem restoration, and indigenous knowledge systems.

jungho kimThe Department of ERFEG would like to welcome its newest member, Dr. Jungho Im. Dr. Im received his BS in 1998 in Oceanography from Seoul National University, an MCP in 2000 in Environmental Management from Seoul National University, and his PhD in 2006 in Geography with Dr. Jensen at the University of South Carolina. Recently, Dr. Jungho Im has worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Center for GIS and Remote Sensing, University of South Carolina. His research interests include Geographic Information Systems (GIS), GIS-based modeling, digital image processing, and environmental remote sensing. His office is in the 4th floor ERFEG faculty suite in Baker Labs.

Wendong TaoDr. Wendong Tao has a B.Sc. degree in Geography from Shaanxi Normal University and a M.Sc. in Environmental Geosciences from Beijing Normal University. In 2006, he received his Ph.D. in Civil/Environmental Engineering from The University of British Columbia, Vancouver. Recently, he taught environmental engineering and science courses at University of Northern British Columbia. Dr. Tao also has substantial consulting experience in Canada and China. He has a broad interest in ecological engineering with research experience mainly in constructed wetlands, ponds, wastewater treatment processes, wood leachate, aquatic microbial ecology, and eutrophication control. Currently, his research focuses on ecological design for BNR, GHG control, and PPCPs removal.

ESF in HondurasESF Engineers Without Borders Work Over Winter Break

ESF students are heading to Honduras to help blaze a trail to promote eco-tourism. “We will focus our efforts on building and updating low-impact, ecologically sound hiking trails for tourist access to Pico Bonito National Park in Honduras,” said State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry’s (ESF) Matthew Sutton, a junior studying Environmental Resources and Forest Engineering.
