A PhD or MS student will take a lead in construction, operation, monitoring (hydraulic, chemical, microbiological aspects; in field and lab), and analysis of subsurface flow constructed wetlands (pilot- or mesocosm-scale) for treatment of wood leachate or logyard runoff. The student will work for an USDA-funded project, while pursuing a degree in Environmental Resources Engineering. The project will start from November 2008, but the student can start as early as the spring 2009 semester. Highly motivated candidates with a BS or MS in environmental engineering or closely related disciplines are encouraged to apply. Please see the application procedures below for regular recruiment. --October 12, 2008.
Regular Recruitment

MPS, MSc or PhD starting from Spring or Fall 2009.

Program: Environmental and Resources Engineering

  • Alternative pathways and processes for biological nitrogen removal from wastewater, using natural treatment systems
  • Treatment of wood leachate in subsurface flow constructed wetlands for cold climates
  • Control of greenhouse gases from wetland treatment systems

Research approaches: Experiment-based (engineering plus chemical and biological); modeling

Academic background: environmental engineering, environmental science, biological engineering, microbiology, biochemistry, physical geography....

Admission, program requirements, credit transfer, and online application: SUNY-ESF Graduate Studies

Notes: If you like to contact me before making ESF online application, please email me your resume, statement of study goals, scanned transcripts, GRE scores, and TOEFL scores (international applicants only).

When your application is complete for review, I may contact you by phone or ask you to make a 5-10 minute video presenting your research interests and/or study goals at ESF. You may upload your video files below.
