Cross Section:  How it Works

1. The analyst considers the object or area in 3-D, and estimates  which straight slice would reveal important information. In this case,  the relationships between the maple tree (on left) and the house are of concern.
2. In Plan (Map ) View the selected Cutting Plane (CP) appears as a straight line.
3. The imaginary flat Cutting Plane   is  passed through  the area.  A B
C D
4. The Cross Section is viewed perpendicular to the Cutting Plane. All "cut' elements are shown. Elements in front (car) or behind the C.P. (pine tree) are not shown.
