Village of Sackets Harbor Sponsors Community Conversations to Discuss Sackets Harbor Future as a Sustainable Community

Environmental Communication Workshop Takes Lead on Community Conversations

The Sackets Harbor Municipal Building

Thursday, April 10  7-9:30 pm
Saturday, April 12  9-11:30 am

The March 2007 draft Local Waterfront Revitalization Program, Heritage Area Management Program, and Harbor Management Plan for the Village of Sackets Harbor provide the vision of the Village’s desired future:

Hounsfield / Sackets Harbor will be a diverse community with a shared sense of place and balanced, dynamic growth and economic development through preservation, education and management of its unique natural, historic, cultural, agricultural and human resources.

A desired enhancement to the LWRP is a guide or addendum for achieving this vision using sustainable methods and approaches.  The Village of Sackets Harbor (pop. 1400) desires to plan and begin actions to become a model green community.  The guide will consider not only Sackets Harbor’s unique situation and opportunities, but also serve as a guide for other communities that hold similar aspirations to make decisions to achieve sustainability.

The Village of Sackets Harbor and GRenew will host 2 Community Conversations for village residents on Thursday April 10th at 7-9pm and Saturday April 12th at 9-11:30am.  We’ll be meeting to discuss what it may mean to be a sustainable Sackets Harbor.

The Conversations will be held on Thursday, April 10th from 7 to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 12th from 9 to 11:30 a.m at the Village Municipal Building at 112 North Broad Street.

The village of Sackets Harbor recently updated its Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan and is now working with GReNew to explore energy efficient and environmentally friendly options for implementing the plan.

The Conversations are an opportunity for residents to learn about sustainable communities and to share ideas and discuss sustainable options for the village.
