Fall 2006-
ESF Entrepreneurship Seminar Series
Entrepreneurship is an opportunity focused way of thinking and creating things that don’t exist today, not just the idea of starting your own business. ESF is leading the way in "Green Entrepreneurship." Come see how and why.
Seminar #1
Barry N. Rosen, an alumnus of SUNY-ESF and now Associate Professor of Marketing and International Business, at The Zicklin School of Business, Baruch College, City University of New York. Barry’s presentation was entitled “Non-Industrial Private Forest (NIPF) Landowners as Entrepreneurs.” He pointed out that though NIPF owners often had additional objectives for their ownership other than just wood production, they still accounted for 59% of the supply of wood in the U.S., and 73% of the hardwoods nationally. The balance of his discussion focused on how additional forestry and marketing skills could help these owners improve their business opportunities.
Seminar #2
Pat Govang, CEO of e2e Materials LLC, a start-up from Cornell research that won the $100,000 top prize in the 2007 Syracuse regional business plan competition. He visited ESF and spoke about the issues and challenges of taking university-based research and IP to market, along with the traditional challenges of targeting early markets, creating differentiation, and establishing credibility. At the time of his visit in October 2006, Pat was still a full-time Cornell employee, with plans starting first quarter 2007 to scale back and by Q2 leave Cornell to spend full time on e2e Materials.
