garrettsDoreen & Jody Garrett of Otis Technology and Lucky Star Ranch, located in the Thousand Islands Region of upstate New York, will receive the Feinstone Award. The Garrett's are business entrepreneurs with a deep interest in the outdoors and our natural world.

The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF) is the oldest college in the nation devoted exclusively to sciences related to the study, wise use and replenishment of natural resources.  With academic programs related to community design and research; renewable and sustainable energy; and biotechnology applied to natural systems, SUNY-ESF serves some of the largest and most productive sectors of the New York State and national economy.

SUNY-ESF is also the administrator for the Sol Feinstone Environmental Awards, which seeks to recognize achievements in advancing the cause of the environment. One of the oldest and most respected in the field, the Feinstone Award was established in 1976. Past recipients have come from science, conservation, government, public policy, teaching and the media.

The Feinstone Environmental Awards Banquet is the primary annual fundraising event for SUNY-ESF, attracting over 200 Central New York business and community leaders. Proceeds raised from the event are used for the ESF Presidential Scholarship Awards for students who will ultimately become our future environmental leaders.

crockettDavid Crockett, Retired Director of the Office of Sustainability in Chattanooga, Tennessee will serve as keynote speaker. Mr. Crockett is an avid outdoorsman and a longtime supporter of sustainability and environmentalism, and descendant of legendary frontiersman, Davey Crockett.

The awards banquet will be one of the inaugural events in the College's new Gateway Center. Built to exceed the highest LEED Platinum building standards, this facility will produce renewable energy for the campus and demonstrate ESF's commitment to environmental sustainability.

The event will be hosted by well known area meteorologist and ESF instructor, Dave Eichorn.
