The recent outbreak of H1N1 Influenza, informally known as swine flu, is of concern to the ESF community and we are closely monitoring the situation. As always, the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff is our primary concern.
It is imperative that each one of us monitors our own health and takes appropriate action to protect ourselves and those around us. Keep in mind that influenza is mainly spread from person to person when the virus is carried in droplets from coughing or sneezing of infected people. You can also be exposed by touching contaminated surfaces, such as doorknobs, and then touching your mouth or nose. Typical symptoms of H1N1 are similar to the regular flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Some infected people have also reported diarrhea and vomiting.
