This soil pit shows the outwash plain at Parishville, NY, in the St. Lawrence Valley. This area is the focus of a study to evaluate the influence of soil-site conditions on red and white pine mortality or recovery from defoliation by the pine false webworm (Acantholyda erythrocephala) (See Mayfield, A.E., D.C.
