The
Lake Champlain Research Institute at Plattsburgh State
University of New York is a regional leader in developing research
and education programs that provide a better understanding of natural
resources and reliable scientific information on Great Lakes and
Adirondack environmental issues.
Rationale
- Need
for permanent lake access and suitable on-lake laboratory facilities.
- Current
use of campus facilities has maximized our ability to interact
with students and researchers from the region (National Science
Foundation and NOAA funded projects over $1 million in 2002).
- Development
of new initiatives and programs with local schools, initiated
in 2002 but can’t continue without development of on-lake
lab and boat dock facilities.

Existing
Facilities:
Plattsburgh State University of New York
The existing facilities include on-campus analytical laboratories
(Hudson Hall); and the seasonal boat dock located at the Valcour
Conference Center. Our objective is to establish a permanent on-lake
laboratory and docking facility associated with the City of Plattsburgh
waterfront re-development effort as a nucleus for research and education
on natural resources of the Lake Champlain region.
