Soil leachate (50 cm) at the maturing sites (Hennessy and IFS) had low nitrogen concentrations. Nitrogen concentrations in soil leachate of the old-growth sites (Ampersand and Catlin) were extremely variable.

Net mineralization rates did not differ among the study sites...

…however, the Ampersand old-growth site had higher net nitrification rates in the forest floor than the Catlin old-growth site.

Litter quality at Ampersand and Hennessy was generally “better” (lower %lignin, higher Ca and Mg concentrations) than at Catlin and IFS.
