The Mapping Sciences Lab has 2 UNIX machines (bullwinkle & nell), 1 Win2000 Advance Server (woodstock), 9 WinXP machines (pigpen, lucy, charliebrown, snoopy, rerun, pmintpatty & linus), a Windows 95 machine (DVP), and two laptops.

Below is listing of the software available in the MSL, a brief description of each of the packages, and a list of the computers the packages are on.

A password is required to use the MSL computers. To obtain a password please see Paul Szemkow or Mark Storrings during normal business hours. You will be asked to read and sign a copy of the Terms and Conditions Governing the Use of Facilities and Equipment

ArcGIS 9.1
ArcGIS 9.1 is ESRI's latest version of its integrated windows mapping system. The desktop system includes ArcMap, ArcTools, and ArcCatelog.  The command line ArcInfo system is also included with this package. Available on pmintpatty, rerun, marcie schroeder, linus, charliebrown, snoopy, pigpen, lucy.

ArcView 3.3 with Spatial Analyst 2.0, 3D Analyist, Network Analyst, and Image Analysis.
ArcView is a windows GIS package from ESRI which was originally developed for print layouts. This package is rapidly expanding and is closing the gap with it's sister software ArcInfo. Many people find ArcView easier to use than ArcInfo, however it is still lacking in the control available with ArcInfo for database creation and management. Available on charliebrown, snoopy, lucy, pigpen, linus, rerun, pmintpatty, marcie, schroeder, bullwinkle, nell.

ERDAS Imagine 8.7
ERDAS Imagine is a remote sensing and image pre-processing, processing, and analysis package. Available on charliebrown, snoopy, lucy, pigpen, linus, rerun, pmintpatty, marcie, schroeder, bullwinkle, nell.

ENVI 4.1
ENVI is an image processing and analysis package. The software environment is customizable using the Interactive Data Language (IDL). Available on ccharliebrown, snoopy, lucy, pigpen, linus, rerun, pmintpatty, marcie, and schroeder.

IDRISI Kilimanjaro
IDRISI is a raster analytical GIS and remote sensing package. The program is useful for database querying, modelling, image enhancement and classification. It is very easy to use and understand. Available on charliebrown, snoopy, lucy, pigpen, linus, rerun, pmintpatty, marcie, schroeder.

Pathfinder Office 2.9
Pathfinder is postprocessing and mission planning software for Trimble GPS receivers. Available on schroeder, linus, rerun, pmintpaddy.

SKI - Static Kinematic Software 2.3
GPS processing software for the Leika receivers. Available on Linus.

GRASS 4.1
The Geographic Resources Analysis Support System is a raster based GIS, vector GIS, image processing, graphics production, data management, and spatial modelling system. It is public domain. Available on dvp.

DVP 4.0
Photogrammetry software. Available on dvp.

DMS 4.1
Softcopy photogrammetry software used to create Digital Orthophotos. Available on dvp.

ArcInfo 7.2.1
ArcInfo 7.2.1 is a vector GIS package which allows extremely flexible database connectivity.This software is considered a GIS industry standard. Available on bullwinkle, nell.

EVInsar-1.2.1 and Advanced Precision Processor 1.6.0
Atlantis Scientific, Inc. developed this software suite to allow precision radar image analysis and manipulation. This software's strength is interferometric processing. Available on bullwinkle, APP available on pmintpaddy.

Microsoft Visual C++
A C++ compiler is available on rerun for Avenue and Erdas development. This compiler is to be used ONLY for mapping related programming.

Microsoft Access
Microsoft Access is a database creation and management tool. The databases created with this software may be connected to ArcInfo and ArcView. Available on rerun, and pigpen.

Corpscon for Windows
Corpscon is a useful package for transformations between different datums and coordinate systems. It is freeware put out by the Army Corps of Engineers. Available on linus.

SMMS
SMMS (Spatial Metadata Management System) provides an efficient way to document spatial datasets. This software includes a FGDC-compliant metadata editor and HTML generator. Available on charliebrown.
