2008 Northeastern Recreation Research Symposium
Call for Papers and Presentations

Presentation formats

Paper and poster presentations are considered equal in terms of expected scholarly quality. At their core, management and roundtable discussions should have a focus on application.

  • Research paper presentation: A 15-minute presentation followed by 5 minutes of discussion.
  • Poster presentation: A 60-minute session during which time authors must be available for questions and discussion.
  • Management presentation: A 90-minute session focusing on current, applied recreation management issues.
  • Roundtable discussion: A 60- to 90-minute session providing structure for stimulating discussion of timely and controversial topics.

Topical areas

The following are examples of topical areas. However, we welcome and encourage presentations on other areas of recreation research and management.

  • Natural resource management
  • Historical/cultural resource management
  • Emerging and existing trends
  • Measurement and forecasting
  • Travel and tourism
  • Sustainable tourism
  • Human dimensions
  • Policy development and planning
  • Management applications
  • Methodological & theoretical development

Proposed roundtable discussion

NERR is also looking for presenters who are interested in participating in a proposed roundtable discussion titled “Outdoor Recreation, Nature-based Experiences and Youth.” If you are interested in participating as a presenter for this roundtable, click here for more information.

Abstract Submission Guidelines

Abstract submission is closed for the 2008 conference.

Presentation equipment

One LCD projector and laptop computer will be set up in each break-out session room. Speakers are asked to load their presentations onto the appropriate laptop during conference breaks from either a CD or portable hard drive. If you wish to use either an overhead or slide projector, please request one prior to the conference by contacting Maureen Wakefield, SUNY ESF.

Deadlines

November 9, 2007 One page abstract must be received via the abstract submission website by this date.
January 15, 2008 Notification of acceptance.
January 25, 2008 Preliminary schedule (without presentation times) posted on website
February 8, 2008 Full schedule (including presentation times) posted on website.
