The Northeastern Recreation Research (NERR) Symposium is proud to announce a limited number of scholarships for graduate and undergraduate students. For the past 13 years, the NERR has awarded young scholars an opportunity to present their scholarly work in a positive and constructive setting as well as broaden their views on the collaborative academic and practitioner world.  The scholarships will cover the student registration fee for the Symposium. Winners will be e-mailed a special registration link for online registration. Scholarship recipients are required to attend the entire NERR conference from Sunday afternoon through Tuesday morning, including the buffet dinner and luncheon.

Application Instruction

Interested students should send their application package including the following two items (as two attached PDF or Word format files, each bearing applicant’s last name and first initial) to the NERR Conference Chair, Dr. Alan Graefe, at gyu@psu.edu.

  • A one-page letter describing how the student’s academic and professional interests will be enhanced by the Symposium.  Applicants may also include information on past contributions to and involvement with NERR.
  • A letter of recommendation from one faculty member.

The application package must be received by e-mail no later than December 1, 2015, midnight ET.  Please note only full and complete scholarship application packages received by the deadline will be reviewed.  Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.  Applicants will be notified by e-mail on January 29, 2016.

Scholarship Sponsors

The Tom and Muriel More Scholarships are provided thanks to the generous donations of Tom and Muriel More, Venture Publishing (www.venturepublish.com), NERR Steering Committee members, and conference attendees via the NERR silent auction.  We sincerely appreciate the support of our young scholar-practitioners.  Those individuals interested in making a donation to the Tom and Muriel More Scholarship fund should contact the Conference Chair, Dr. Alan Graefe, at gyu@psu.edu.
