Student Audio Visual Assistant Positions

NERR is looking for six energetic, able students to assist with AV equipment set-up and operations at NERR 2014.

A NERR Student Audio Visual Assistant is someone who helps make the symposium run smoothly in exchange for a reduction in your fee. What would you be asked to do?

  • Unload equipment and conference materials into the venue (if hotel staff is not available)
  • Assist with setting up the registration table
  • Set up audio visual equipment in the session rooms
  • Load presenters' powerpoint presentations onto laptop
  • Set up easels and poster boards for the poster session
  • Tear down the above items
  • Load them back in the van for departure (if hotel staff is not available)

The Ideal Candidates are:

  • Available the entire conference
  • Able to set up a projector screen, laptop and LCD projector without assistance, including extension cord and power strip configuration
  • Able to load a powerpoint presentation onto a desktop and activate it on slide show without assistance.
  • Assist with check-in at the registration table (requires friendly personality while handing out conference materials). You would describe yourself as generally patient, actively interested in assisting others and committed to helping make the Symposium a success. Anyone with a helpful spirit is welcome.

Registration fee:
If you are selected to be a Student AV Assistant, your registration fee will be $85. However, you will register and pay the full student rate of $170. If you fulfill your responsibilities as an AV Assistant, you will be reimbursed $85 at the completion of the conference.

Work schedule at the Symposium:

  • Sunday
    • Unload van at 10:30 AM (if conference staff arrive on Saturday, students will not be expected to help unload) see Terry Sakowski on Sunday morning
    • Set up AV in session rooms
    • Load presentations for each presenter (prior to each session beginning)
    • Set up poster display area at 3:00 PM
    • Set up registration table – assist with check-in/registration: 12 noon – 5 pm
    • Power down projectors in session rooms before start of Poster Session/Reception
  • Monday
    • Load presentations for each presenter (prior to each session beginning)
    • Power down and power up projectors in session rooms (at certain times of the day)
    • Assist Keynote Speaker with any AV needs
    • Assist at the Registration Table: 7:30 am – (TBD)
    • Tear down poster boards and load into van
  • Tuesday
    • Load presentations for each presenter (prior to each session beginning)
    • Assist at the Registration Table 7:00 am – (TBD)
    • Tear down AV equipment
    • Load van: 11:00 am – 12:30 pm (if hotel staff is not available)
