History of The Baobab Society

The Baobab Society was founded in 1991 by a small group of underrepresented students and the Senior Admissions Advisor at that time, Ms. Eva Williams. The organization was formed to promote diversity of people's cultures, religions and lifestyles, etc. throughout the entire college campus community and beyond. Basically, Baobab Society's main purpose is to spread MULTICULTURALISM to ALL.

Where did we get our name? The Baobab is a tree that grows in the sub-Sahara desert of Africa. As one can tell by the location, the Baobab tree has grown strong for years and continues to prosper in spite of the adverse surrounding conditions. This tree is a symbolic representation of our organization. We will continue to prosper, with the help of the student body and faculty, regardless of the struggles we may face.
