About ESS

Meetings are Mondays at 6:30 pm in 110 Moon Library

The Student Chapter at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry mission is:

"Uniting the talent, training and resources of organizations in the United States with the need and drive for sustainable development abroad"

ESF-ESS is a group of over eighty engineers, scientists, landscape architects and environmental scholars with an interest in international development. Group member devote their time and energy to help the chapter build sustainable infrastructure abroad while also increasing domestic awareness of the needs of people in the developing world. The rewards for these sacrifices will be threefold: joy when the project is completed, education on the principles of sustainable engineering design, and experience gained while working with fellow ESS members, professionals, and other student organizations.

In addition to international endeavors, ESS focuses on community volunteering and design projects, chapter collaboration, educational workshops, and campus activities such as speakers, TG's and films.

ESF-ESS/EWB welcomes all majors, so even if you have no experience in engineering or international service, don't hesitate to join in.

About EWB

EWB-USA is a non-profit organization that helps create a more stable and prosperous world. The organization strives to meet basic human needs of less fortunate communities around the world by providing them with necessities such as clean water, power, sanitation and education. EWB-USA is also well represented on college campuses across the country, making it a catalyst in the movement to educate the next generation of socially conscious engineers. Our chapter, ESF-EWB, strives to provide engineering solutions to communities in Latin America in need of better infrastructure. Members work on designing projects and get the chance to travel and experience different cultures.

The SUNY ESF chapter of Engineers Without Borders-USA was created in fall 2003 by one Syracuse University Environmental Engineering student and two SUNY ESF Forest Engineering students. Throughout its existence, the ESF chapter of EWB has been entirely student-run. Students decide what projects the chapter will work on and are in charge of the entire project. Faculty and professionals are welcomed as mentors to supplement the students' design process.
