"Project
Learning Tree teaches how to think, not what to think."
Resource professionals are
often called upon as informal educators regarding an array of environmental
questions. This workshop will provide you
with interactive, age-appropriate, inexpensive activities that you can use and
readily adapt for a variety of groups. The activities were designed by
teachers and natural resources personnel, tested in classrooms, and correlated
with educational standards. "PLT activities guide students through a
process that begins with awareness, moves to knowledge, challenges preconceived
ideas, and seeks constructive avenues for environmental action."
You must attend both sessions
to receive the complementary Environmental Education Activity Guide (Pre
K-8), with handy indices to help you select activities for your subject matter and grade. For instance, there are over 50
activities that can be used for integrated science and social studies
lessons, and almost 70 activities recommended for students in the 4th
grade! High school modules (an
introductory handbook and separate, specialized modules on topics such as forest
ecology will also be available for
purchase at the workshop ($5 ea, or $25 for the set).
This is an active
indoor/outdoor workshop, and it will be conducted rain or shine—please dress
appropriately.
