NY Planning Federation
Founded in 1937 as a service and lobbying organization for municipal planning and zoning boards in New York State, the New York Planning Federation still maintains an emphasis on education and technical assistance to our members. Our mission is simple: to promote sound planning, land use and zoning practice in New York State so that orderly growth and development may occur balanced with necessary resources conservation. Today our membership includes many municipal and county governments throughout the State as well as individuals, corporations, and non-governmental organizations.
Natural History Programs
Beaver Lake Nature Center
Over 400 public programs are offered, ranging from workshops that include snowshoe weaving and wreath making to naturalist guided walks and canoe tours. Beaver Lake also offers day long trips to local natural areas and even ecotours including whale watching off Cape Cod, birding at Maryland's National wildlife refuge or hiking in the Adirondacks.
Cayuga Nature Center
Cayuga Nature Center (CNC) is a nonprofit, private organization dedicated to providing education for schools, community groups and the general public throughout the year. Programs are for anyone interested in learning more about the environment, the out-of-doors and themselves.
Centers for Nature Education
Centers for Nature Education (CNE) is committed to teaching and promoting environmental awareness and responsible natural resource use. CNE is a nonprofit, non-partisan environmental education organization.
Cumming Nature Center
The Cumming Nature Center is open 45 weeks every year. Special events, activity weekends, and family programs are designed to enhance your enjoyment of each season's delights.
Five Rivers Environmental Education Center
Located in the Capital District, Five Rivers Center provides a variety of programs and services which are easily accessible to individuals, families and organized groups.
MOST
Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science and Technology. All of Central New York enjoys and benefits from the MOST's well-developed community outreach program! From tots to teachers, the objective is fun for the purpose of solid science education. MOST educators take their programs outside the museum walls to spark the curiosity and creativity of a wide range of ages and audiences.
Onondaga Aububon Society
Field trips are free and open to the public. Novice birders (and non birders too!) are welcome. In some cases, trips will be designated for novices in particular.
Rice Creek Field Station
Rice Creek Field Station is a unit of the State University of New York College at Oswego (SUNY Oswego) dedicated to the support of academic instruction, research, and public service in all aspects of natural history, especially the natural sciences and environmental education.
Rogers Environmental Education Center
Rogers Center staff provide a variety of programs for the interested visitor. Program areas include natural resources, nature study, ecological concepts, and environmental quality. Weekend and evening programs are offered throughout the year for individuals and families.
Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center
Located in Dutchess County just north of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge, Stony Kill Farm offers a variety of programs and services for individuals, families and organized groups.
Tanglewood Nature Center and Museum
Tanglewood Forest is a large mature evergreen plantation managed by the Elmira Water Board. Tanglewood Community Nature Center leases 16 acres of the forest for environmental education.
Teatown Lake Reservation A Nature Preserve and Education Center
Teatown Lake Reservation's mission is to conserve open space and to educate and involve the regional community in order to sustain the diversity of wildlife, plants and habitats for future generations. Located in northern Westchester County, New York, Teatown is a private, nonprofit corporation, solely dependent on program fees and contributions for support.
Waterman Conservation Education Center
The Waterman Conservation Education Center in Apalachin, NY is dedicated to increasing environmental awareness and outdoor recreation. Waterman operates four wildlife refuges that are open everyday during daylight hours.
