Alternative Energy Workshop
Advanced Training Workshop in Alternative Energy

EFB 796-3, FCH796-1

The 2011 Workshop has concluded.

The Advanced Training Workshop in Alternative Energy at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) is designed to promote the understanding and use of alternative energy technologies as they pertain to both the classroom and outside world. The workshop is open to high school science teachers, pre-service science teachers, and other community educators in New York State. The goal of the workshop is to provide a background in PV, wind, and other alternative energies for use in classroom education.

HOLD CURSOR OVER IMAGE TO PAUSE
Attendees will take part in an intense credit-bearing 4-day workshop with a series of follow-up experiences during the school year. Upon successful completion of the workshop, teachers shall earn two graduate-level course credits from ESF. The workshop will involve lectures from ESF faculty and staff involved in alternative energy research, a laboratory portion for hands-on curriculum development, assistance in lesson plan integration with experts in science education, grant writing, and ESF facility tours. A materials demonstration kit will also be provided to participants at the conclusion of the workshop.  An archive to the 2009 and 2010 Workshops can be found below.

Attendees will gain information regarding many of the proposed alternative energy technologies including solar, wind, biofuels, and others. Fundamental discussions of the operations of each of these devices at the atomic level are included at these research lectures, encompassing many scientific areas including chemistry, physics, and agriculture. The workshop will address New York State Math, Science, and Technology standards where applicable for curriculum development.

This workshop is sponsored by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and SUNY ESF. Please contact Dr. Neal Abrams or Dr. Richard Beal with questions about the workshop.
