Syracuse City School District & SUNY-ESF earn "Partnership of the Year"
Partners for Education & Business, Inc. (PEB) is a non profit organization that focuses on increasing the skills of the emerging workforce by blending the needs of the business with the academic success of students. With the help and involvement of schools, post-secondary institutions, businesses, employers, government and the community, PEB provides an outlet for students to become productive, responsible and contributing members to our community. PEB has partnerships with several local school districts, including Syracuse City School District (SCSD), that promote the coordination and implementation of many career exploration activities for both students and teachers, including career fairs, speakers, job shadows, internships, and industry tours. Their organization also provides SCSD middle school students with an online career exploration program-the Virtual College & Career Center- to provide students with a way to measure their skills and learn how to improve them. To further implement their goals, PEB has developed the Certificate of Workplace Competency, which proves to employers the skills a student or potential employee has achieved, as well as their work readiness.
The Partners for Education & Business, Inc. has awarded both SUNY-ESF and the SCSD the “Partnership of the Year” achievement award for displaying extraordinary commitment to producing skilled and successful students and future workers. SUNY-ESF has collaborated with the SCSD to create and sustain supplemental programs that enhance science education in the Syracuse City School District. These programs, ESF Science, the Environmental Challenge and ESF in the High School (ESFHS) help students understand the complex environment around them and the impacts they have on the environment.
