SUNY Conversations in the Disciplines:
The Feasibility of a NYS Energy Conservation/Global Warming Consortium

SUNY will host a consortium on September 19, 2003 on the ESF campus in the Alumni Lounge located in Marshall Hall. The event is called, "Conversation in the Disciplines Event: The Feasibility for a New York State Energy Conservation/Global Warming Consortium". Experts will explore hot topics that revolve around creating a consortium in NYS. Issues such as energy conservation, global gas reduction, climate change and atmosphere research will be actively debated in a forum with a variety of policy makers and researchers from the SUNY system.

Specific objectives of this consortium include:

• Find strategies to support regional energy conservation and greenhouse gas reduction policy research network;
• Determine ways to introduce and expand energy curriculum development in NYS schools;
• Identify key activities of independent resources for energy policy review that focus on self-sufficiency; and key activities that complement existing energy extension/institutional practice activities; especially linkages to industry, institutions, college campuses and households.

Agenda:

8:30-9:30 am: Registration and poster sessions

9:30-10:00 am: Opening and welcoming remarks

10:00-11:20 am: Review of ongoing research activity (3 simultaneous sessions)

1. Regional climate modeling and environmental affects
2. Greenhouse gas reduction/energy conservation strategy research
3. Energy policy research: alternatives, incentives & implementation

11:30-12:30 pm: Global warming/energy curriculum

• Middle school/high school
• Undergraduate programs
• Community- related programs

12:30-1:30 pm: Lunch and poster sessions

1:30-2:40 pm: Energy Extension/Institutional Practice

• Agency programs, e.g. NYSERDA, PSC, etc.
• University Programs
• NGO Programs

2:40-3:00 pm: Coffee Break

3:00-4:00 pm: Keynote presentation by Donald Brown, Director of Pennsylvania Consortium

4:00-5:00 pm: Discussion of feasibility discussion for NYS, E-consortium plus Next steps Summary and wrap up
