Paul Murray, Director of Environmental Health and Sustainability, Herman Miller
As Herman Miller’s Director of Environmental Health and Sustainability, Paul Murray has guided the company’s “green” initiatives since 1992. This gives him a unique perspective on the many and varied environmental activities underway on any given day, the dollar value of these actions, and the vital role each individual Herman Miller employee plays. It also provides the basis for “The
Power of One,” Paul’s presentation that articulates how the actions of even one person can have a profound impact on raising a company’s – and even an industry’s – environmental awareness.
Paul was named Environmental Affairs Manager in 1992 and Director of Environmental Health, Safety and Sustainability in 2006. In May 2006, Vanity Fair magazine acknowledged Paul’s efforts by including him in their first special “Green” issue, in the section entitled, “The Re-Inventors: Green Architects and Designers.” Recently, he was featured along with five other environmental business leaders in Sierra Magazine’s January 2008 issue. Paul believes “Each person has the ability to create greater environmental awareness and action within their company. Everyone has a part to play and the power is to do something..”
