Central New York Biotechnology Symposium 2010 – Cultivating Economic Growth brought together the region’s most promising and innovative biotechnology companies involved in biofuels, biopharmaceuticals, human diagnostics and agricultural biotechnology. Start-ups from regional universities including SUNY ESF, Upstate Medical University, Syracuse University and Cornell University were showcased, as well as regional independent biotech start-ups. Sessions focused on start-up company support activities, availability of business development resources, public and private sources of funding and incubator facilities in NYS.

The Central New York Biotechnology Research Center hosted its second annual Biotechnology Symposium on March 22, 2010, in Syracuse, NY. The prior symposium in 2009 included presentations from 15 NYS biotechnology companies including Crowley Foods, Anheuser Busch, Constellation Wines, TVT Bio, Terrenew, Modular Biosystems, BioSpherix, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Blue Highway, Albany Molecular, O’Brien & Gere, Advanced EarthEnergy Technologies, Corning, Northeast Biofuels and e2e materials, as well as speakers from Cornell University, SUNY Research Foundation, SUNY ESF and SUNY Upstate Medical University. More than 24 sponsors helped underwrite the event that attracted 130 people.

The 2010 event focused on regional biotechnology start-up companies, and how to develop and attract them. The event provided an ideal opportunity to showcase the Central New York Biotechnology Research Center, a SUNY building that is currently under construction in the Kennedy Square section of Syracuse. When completed, the CNY BRC will serve as an incubator facility for more than 20 biotechnology companies, perhaps some of the companies participating in the 2010 symposium.
